Just before Saturday night ends, and with it the month of June, timekeepers are adding a second to atomic clocks to keep them in synch with the Earth's slightly slowing rotations. They'll add the second after 11:59:59 universal time, which is 7:59:59 where I am in College Park, Maryland.
Many media outlets have stories on the subject -- here is a selection of the headlines inspired by this rare event:
Agence France Press: Tick, tock, stop: Holding time for a leap second
And my favorite, from the Sydney Morning Herald: Hold on a second and let it sync in
Have a great weekend and make the most of your extra time!
