  1. Rectilinear Locomotion - the way in which a snake moves forward, by creating a wave that moves from its head to its tail.
  2. Inclined plane - a flat surface that is tilted; snakes are adept at moving up inclined planes, through the use of friction between their scales and the surface of the plane.
  3. Friction - the resistance to motion between two surfaces, such as the body of a snake sliding over rocky ground.
